Foster The People Brings Their Paradise State of Mind Tour to Montreal's MTELUS
Foster The People played MTELUS in Montreal with support from Good Neighbours for the Paradise State of Mind Tour.
On a cold Wednesday night, February 19, 2025, MTELUS came alive as Foster The People took the stage. After a seven-year break from touring and changes in the band, the Paradise State of Mind Tour marked their return, celebrating and promoting their latest album of the same name.
The night kicked off with Good Neighbours, an alternative indie-rock duo from the UK consisting of Scott Verrill and Oli Fox. They opened their set with "Keep It Up," followed by "Kids Can't Sleep" and "Bloom." Their infectious energy captivated the crowd from start to finish. While many in the audience were unfamiliar with some of their songs, that didn’t stop them from dancing along and singing when they could. The duo wrapped up their set with “Daisies,” setting the perfect tone for the rest of the night.
As the lights dimmed and smoke thickened into a dreamy haze, Foster The People took the stage, backlit by vertical, pulsating LED lights. They launched into "Feed Me," a track from their new album, before seamlessly moving into another fresh song, "Lost in Space." Frontman Mark Foster, in his black shoes and a black leather jacket, pulled everyone in with his energy and charisma as he engaged the crowd, then transitioned into a fan-favorite "Helena Beat."
From the moment the band started playing, it was clear that Paradise State of Mind had been well received by fans. Foster's dance moves were infectious, and his energy never wavered as he urged the audience to sing and move along with him. His vocals were album-quality, and the lighting and production further elevated the performance, making it a dynamic and unforgettable experience.
The band effortlessly transitioned from song to song, taking minimal breaks throughout their 20-track setlist. The night featured many songs from their latest album, along with all the favorites from the past. As the show neared its end, Foster took a moment to address the audience, reflecting on his feelings of being back on stage after a seven-year hiatus. He expressed deep gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support.
The band gave a powerful performance of "Miss You," followed by the closing track, "A Diamond to Be Born." The band then left the stage, only to return for an encore featuring two of their biggest hits "Sit Next to Me" and "Pumped Up Kicks." Foster let the crowd take over the chorus, creating a communal moment.
As the night ended and fans poured out of the venue, you were able to tell that their Kicks were pumped up by their excitement and smiles. Some lined up to purchase merch, while others were still buzzing from the electrifying performance. Foster The People’s return to the stage was well worth the wait, and Montreal was lucky to witness it firsthand.
